Smithfield / Selma Goes Wireless

 

 

The cities of Smithfield / Selma are going High-speed Wireless with the help of a Clayton-area company. A regional Internet service provider, DockPoint, LLC will expand its Multipoint Broadband Wireless System to offer this technology to business and residential clients. DockPoint will deploy its technology architecture in the Smithfield / Selma areas, allowing it to compete with Sprint, BellSouth and Time Warner Cable for high-speed broadband clients.

 

DockPoint, recognized as a Wi-Fi industry pioneer, will install multiple wireless locations, providing fixed broadband Internet services and hotspot locations throughout Smithfield / Selma services areas, providing customers a high-speed Internet alternative.

 

How it works: Access points connected to DockPoint’s 5.8 ghz point to multipoint high-speed network will broadcast in the 2.4 ghz band over the selected areas. Subscribers will connect via receivers (Customer Premise Equipment) installed either on their rooftops or within their computers. Subscribers will access the Internet via a Wireless Gateway for Control, Authentication, Security and Management.
